PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES
JULY 5, 2006
IN CONNECTION WITH PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE MIDLAND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT FOR THE ONONDAGA COUNTY SANITARY DISTRICT
A public hearing was held on the above date by the Onondaga County Legislature in the Legislative Chambers of the Court House, Syracuse, New York, regarding proposed improves to the Midland Wastewater Treatment Plant for the Onondaga County Sanitary District.
Chairman Sweetland called the hearing to order at 2:10 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers at the Court House, Syracuse, New York.
The Clerk called the roll and the following legislators were present: Mrs. Baker, Mr. Kraft, Mr. Meyer, Mr. Farrell, Mr. Rapp, Mr. Rhinehart, Mr. DiBlasi, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Stanczyk, Mr. Holmquist, Mr. Warner, Mr. Whelan, Mr. Kinne, Mr. Laguzza, Mr. Ryan, Mrs. Chaplin, Mrs. Winslow, Chairman Sweetland.
The Clerk read the notice of public hearing and stated that proof of publications in the Syracuse Newspapers and affidavits of posting were on file in the Office of the Clerk.
Chairman Sweetland asked for speakers wishing to be heard.
Aggie Lane – Statement and a proposed resolution on file
Katie Nado – presented statements on behalf of Thayne Joyall, Environmental Attorney. Statement on file. Tarky Heath – statement on file.
Joe Health – statement on file.
Martin Rothenburg – read letter published in City Edition of the Post Standard (attached). He said that it appears that the County Legislature has been misinformed and mislead. Feels that they need to take a strong step to get to the bottom of it.
Jim McCaskett – He has been a Westsider his entire life; there are people that have lived there for generations. They have been uprooted because of the treatment plant. Some lived in public housing that was shut down because of the treatment plant. He is really disappointed in the way the government works. Doesn’t feel that it is a good message to send to our kids–that if you want something, you just uproot whatever is in your way to get it. There are a lot of people hurt by the Legislature’s action and Mr. Pirro doesn’t want to hear anything. He will encourage people to register and vote–if they get support, they will support the legislators.
There being no further speakers, Chairman Sweetland closed the public hearing at 2:50 p.m.
